The Water Security Agency is warning the public about heightened risks surrounding all water activities involving the North Saskatchewan and Churchill River systems and their tributaries as well as the South Saskatchewan River system. The water is moving fast because of high levels of precipitation, and that poses a risk to the public and to property. People are advised to examine and avoid unstable banks.
As well, there is a high water level update for the Cumberland House and Anglin Lake area. Flows from the E-B Campbell Power Station will be increasing Tuesday to about 2,165 cubic meters per second. These increased flows, continued rainfall, and the duration and saturation of the area, including Cumberland Lake will increase water levels at Cumberland House. The water Security Agency will be estimating water levels at Cumberland House to determine if there is a risk to the community. Peak levels for Northern communities such as Ile-a-La-Crosse, La Ronge, and Sandy Bay are projected seven to 10 days off and community preparedness continues.
Anglin Lake has risen to a level of over 515 meters above its natural spill point. The Agency is removing additional stop logs to increase outflows to try and manage the situation. But, with many downstream areas already experiencing high flows, flooding may be possible. The agency is notifying downstream stakeholders including RMs, the City of Prince Albert, and the Ministry of Highways.
