There are very high water levels in the Cumberland Delta in northern Saskatchewan because of high flows on the Saskatchewan river and wet conditions in the basin north of Cumberland House flowing into the Churchill River System.
The Water Security Agency expects the peak will be in just over a week on the 25th.
Comparing the flows in previous years, it’s expected to be higher than it was in 2013, but less than was experienced in 2011.
The WSA says efforts are underway to ensure the flood proofing measures commissioned in 2013 are still operational.
It’s not expected at this time that Cumberland House residents will have to evacuate.
Further south, the Water Security Agency expects the Gardiner Dam spillway use will end by Monday and all flow will be through the Gardiner Dam power plant only.
The WSA says total flows from Lake Diefenbaker will be dropped in the next day (Thurs/Fri) by 100 cubic metres per second, with additional drops on Saturday and Monday.
