Manufacturing sales in Saskatchewan grew 6.1 per cent from April to May. Statistics Canada says nationally, they were up 10.7 per cent. Five provinces had higher increases than us. When compared to May the previous year, sales here were down 22.2 per cent. The hit was higher nationally where the records show a drop of 31.6 per cent. Six provinces were hit harder than us. Sales in the province in May were about $1.05 billion.
In the Saskatoon census metropolitan area, manufacturing sales rose 11.4 per cent, April to May. Nine of 12 CMAs outperformed that. Compared to May a year ago, Saskatoon’s numbers fell about 17 per cent. In this case, nine of the 12 CMAs did worse than us. Total sales in Saskatoon in May rang in at $278 million.
