The Federation of Saskatchewan Indigenous Nations posted a screen shot of a social media comment suggesting someone run through the group of people walking last weekend in Saskatoon, in honour of a missing indigenous woman, Ashley Morin.
The FSIN says threats of violence aren’t acceptable in any situation and they encourage the public to report those kinds of media posts to the police or the FSIN special investigations unit. Saskatoon Police say they do have an investigation underway. They are also aware of the family’s wishes that the complaint be dealt with using compassion and education. They say that consideration will be part of the investigation and possible future submission to the Crown.
The FSIN says that the person involved has been terminated from employment and is no longer coaching minor hockey.
It was the second year for the walk from Saskatoon to North Battleford. It is a walk for awareness called Bring Ashley Home. Ashley Morin who would be 33 this year, disappeared from North Battleford in July 2018.
