Mayoralty candidate Rob Norris says he wants to keep Saskatchewan and Alberta in a unified and prosperous Canada and that is the impetus behind several positional statements he has released. Norris says the so-called “Buffalo Project,” will have long-lasting implications for Saskatoon, and its essential that people here be heard. The project lays out five actions for a fair confederation which include action on equalization and fiscal stabilization, trade and immigration, and access to ports.
Norris says he wants to ensure that Saskatchewan and Alberta are treated with due dignity and respect. He says he supports a Buffalo corridor; provided indigenous partners are set to participate in its establishment and sustained success. Norris says he supports a provincial tax collection plan as well as a review of trade and immigration policies. He has already proposed that Saskatoon have its own immigration program. Norris also wants a review of trade agreements with Saskatchewan and Alberta having a greater voice in the negotiations.
On the other hand, Norris has concerns about any change to existing pension plans and suggests it be decoupled from the immediate Buffalo proposal.
