The province says the first projects for the oil well abandonment program have been approved.
There are 22 packages in all with up to 50 service companies taking part and the work is spread out for the sealing and clean up of these wells across the lloydminster, Kindersley, Swift Current and Estevan areas.
In a news release, the province says the work includes around 300 well abandonments, 300 flowline abandonments, 75 facility decommissions and 700 other site reclamation activities.
Energy and Resources Minister Bronwyn Eyre says this will help with employment in the oil industry.
The Accelerated Site Closure Program was launched this past May and Phase 1 will allocate up to $100-million in funding to Saskatchewan service companies.
Over 2 years the program could access up to $400-million through the federal COVID-19 Economic Response Plan.
