The Saskatoon Fire Department says when they arrived on scene Tuesday morning to a natural gas leak call in the 400 block of Avenue Y South, firefighters could hear the sound of gas being released by a compromised natural gas line.
The 911 call came in at 10:15 a.m. and the utility was notified while affected properties were evacuated. Firefighters helped dig down to the line so SaskEnergy technicians could clamp down the line and stop the flow of natural gas.
The Fire department ventilated the area and traffic was reopened to the public on Avenue Y between 18th and 19th Streets just before noon.
