The contractor will officially turn over the Saskatoon’s Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan site to Shakespeare management, today. Director of Marketing and Development, Alan Long says finishing touches like painting, landscaping and countertops are being completed by staff and volunteers.
He says upgrades include a 300 seat concrete amphitheatre that will be able to be covered by a tent, dressing rooms for actors, a box office along the Meewasin Trail, and a bar and patio along the river. Long says recently they also announced, in partnership with the city, they will be building a new washroom facility near the site, that will be open year-round.
Long says a brand new secondary portion of the Meewasin trail that goes right through the site was just recently completed as well. Long suggests with recent changes in Saskatchewan’s re-opening plan, he hopes they will be able to have some open houses and tours of the site in mid to late August. Long says unfortunately they won’t be able to have any shows this year, but they are looking forward to sharing the improved site, fully, next summer.
