The latest Angus Reid Survey indicates that the WE Charity controversy has dropped the approval rating for the Prime Minister but most doubt not enough that it would bring down government.
Three in five Canadians asked feel the issue is a serious and significant one. 43% say the Trudeau government knowingly committed an unethical act while almost as many at 37% feel the government’s decisions in regard to the charity constitute a possibly criminal act that warrants police investigation.
The Finance Minister, Bill Morneau’s daughter works for the WE Charity and last week it came to light he told the Finance Committee he had just repaid over $41,000 to WE for travel expenses in connection to trips taken by the Minister and his family. The WE charity has paid out approximately $300,000 to members of the Trudeau family for speaking engagements. The Prime Minister has apologized for not recusing himself from discussions about the contract that was going to be awarded to WE to oversee an almost 1 billion dollar grant program.
