A more than 600 kilometre protest walk ends today (Fri). The Walking With Our Angels protest began on July 2nd in Air Ronge, and made its way through Saskatoon on the 17th, and will wind through Regina today.
Tristen Durocher is a Metis musician who is protesting the province’s inaction on suicide prevention. He has been joined on the walk by supporters. The goal is to raise awareness on the suicide crisis in northern Saskatchewan and to protest the Saskatchewan Party government voting down an NDP suicide prevention bill.
Once Durocher arrives on the lawn of the Legislative Assembly, he plans to begin a hunger strike, which in a Facebook post, Durocher says will continue until an emergency session is called and the suicide prevention bill is passed.
Rural and Remote Health Minister Warren Kaeding responded to Durocher by mail saying he would be willing to meet with him at his convenience.
