It’s a busy weekend for Saskatchewan’s parks, but even when in vacation mode, the pandemic is still at large.
That’s a reminder from Prince Albert National Park spokesperson, Cal Martin, who is encouraging visitors to follow the public health protocols, including physical distancing, in particular at high traffic areas like the Waskesiu townsite, at beaches and picnic areas. Martin says people may need to be a little bit more patient when entering stores, restaurants and park facilities, because of the regulations and guidelines. He calls it a unique summer, where we are all dealing with things we haven’t had to in the past. He adds that staff have increased the cleaning of washrooms, campground kiosks, picnic shelters and other types of facilities to keep the chance of transmission of the virus down.
Although there are no exhibits at the visitors’ centre for safety reasons, it is still open with staff there to answer questions, and to sell fishing licenses and back country camping permits.
Martin notes that back country camping has doubled compared to previous years, with people just wanting to get as far away as possible, and that’s something they can accommodate.
