The RCMP will be keeping an eye out for impaired boaters this August Long Weekend.
RCMP Officers and Conservation officers will be patrolling to ensure everyone is boating safely while following provincial regulations. RCMP remind all boaters that being impaired while operating a boat shares similar consequences as the impaired operation of a vehicle and it is illegal to operate a power boat while impaired by alcohol or other substances.
Conservation officers have the authority to enforce alcohol regulations and remind people that boats are considered a public place so open alcohol is not allowed for anyone on the boat, whether you are a operator or passenger. Impaired passengers, officers say, are at risk of drowning if they were to fall overboard.
Police say if you see someone you suspect is impaired by alcohol or drugs on the water or roads this long weekend, to call local police or 911.
