A 29 year-old man is facing charges after allegedly ditching a stolen vehicle and fleeing from police this weekend.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., on Saturday, Police came upon a stolen vehicle at 20th Street and Avenue N that was known to be involved in a hit and run accident earlier in the day. When the vehicle fled from police the Air Support Unit followed, and saw it stop in the 800 block of Avenue O South, and a man fled on foot from the stolen vehicle.
When a lone police officer confronted him the suspect shone a bright flashlight into the officer’s eyes. The officer reports fearing that it was some type of weapon, and tried to use a Conducted Energy Weapon but was unsuccessful.
The suspect continued to flee on foot while ASU directed officers to his location, and arrested him.
The man is facing charges of Theft of Motor vehicle, Dangerous Driving, Hit and Run, and Impaired Driving.
