As of Wednesday, Aug. 12, masks will be mandatory for customers at all Walmart locations across Canada.

In an e-mail, the company says this will be in effect for all customers and workers at all locations even if there is not a government mandate to wear a mask or some other form of face covering already in place.

The company says the move is being made to bring more consistency across the store network and to ensure the well-being of customers and associates.

The e-mail goes on to say it is hoped customers will respect and follow the policy and that they will bring their own face coverings when they shop.

Walmart had already mandated masks at all of its U.S. stores in April.
