Late Monday afternoon the Government of Saskatchewan expanded on its safe attendance procedures at the province’s schools this fall which includes having a designated isolation area for anyone, student or staff, presenting COVID-19 symptoms who are not able to leave the school immediately.
A medical mask and face shield must be worn during all interactions with the symptomatic individual. If it is a student then the parents or caregivers will be called to come pick them up immediately and in all cases the local Public Health officials will be contacted and notified. School staff cannot take the student home. All high touch areas, the area the student occupied, as well as the isolation area must be cleaned and disinfected by non-teaching staff.
Schools will have record keeping of attendance and seating arrangements to aid in the public health investigation and contract tracing. If a case is confirmed then the school will be notified and next steps could include self-isolation, self monitoring, contact tracing, and testing.
