The City of Saskatoon is looking to begin another stage towards Bus Rapid Transit in the form of a pilot station.
Terry Schmidt, General Manager of Transportation and Construction says of the pilot station would allow for a test location so components of the BRT stations could be tried out, in Saskatoon, ahead of any long term implementation.
Schmidt says the prototype would provide an opportunity for live testing and trying out operation of station components. He says this would help mitigate future risk by testing in local conditions.
While the pilot project will not cost additional funds, it would require an allocation of $350,000 already available through the BRT funding plan. The funds would be reduced from the 2021 BRT budget and added to 2020.
In 2019 the city endorsed the proposed network of 38 kilometres of BRT, 35.3 of which are mixed traffic and 2.7 that are dedicated transit lanes.
