The Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools supports school divisions consider opening at Level 2 of the Safe School Plan. So the Catholic school division will implement use of masks consistent with the directions outlined. And the division says mask use is in-line with the Return-to-School plan it submitted to government.
Saskatoon Public Schools will be requiring students in grades 4-12 to wear a mask in schools where it is not possible to maintain physical distancing. Masks will be recommended for prekindergarten grade 3 students in schools. Masks will be required for all students on buses. Staff members, parents, caregivers, and visitors to schools will also be required to wear masks. Families will receive more information about school reopening plans later this week.
The Saskatchewan Teachers Federation is concerned about what the STF calls inconsistency between the school re-opening plans and the guidelines provided to other sectors. They stress that the guidelines suggested Tuesday are only effective if applied consistently.
The STF also says that in times of crisis the province’s residents should be able to rely on public health directives rather than suggestions, to ensure a health and safe return to school. President Patrick Maze says they had hoped for a more definitive response and consistent approach across the province.
