Saskatoon Police say a member of their Bike Unit was assaulted around eight o’clock Tuesday evening. Police say the Traffic Unit had stopped a vehicle around Broadway Avenue and 9th Street for traveling 70 km/h over the posted speed limit. The driver was ticketed and his vehicle seized. A sergeant with the Bike Unit came to assist as police allege the driver became aggressive. The sergeant was getting ready to leave the area when the man continued to scream at him. Police allege the man then ran over and struck the officer, knocking him off his bicycle. The officer quickly got up and took the man into custody. The officer’s injury was considered serious but not life-threatening. The 39 year old man was charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer.
