City council will hold a special meeting Monday at 1 pm to discuss funding approval for the SaskPower Energy Assistance Program partnership.
The program is for low income SaskPower and Saskatoon Light and Power customers and provides energy and water efficiency education and free installation of energy and water saving measures to residents that either rent or own a home.
The EAP includes home visits and a full walk-through with energy saving coaching by qualified technicians, a tailored report for each participating home, and installation of energy saving improvements like LED lighting, water saving measures like faucet aerators and shower heads , and programmable thermostats.
The program targets 1,000 Saskatchewan households annually and approximately 250 within Saskatoon.
The EAP is expected to cost approximately $800 per household with the city on the hook for 75% of the cost, and third party funding the other 25%. Over three years it’s estimated Saskatoon’s participation could potentially be $225,000
