Around 4:40 Sunday afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department was told of a house fire on the 300 block of Avenue R South. When they arrived, they found the house was fully involved and a property next door was on fire; with a third property threatened. At the same time, a power pole had been compromised and utility technicians had to be called in to deal with that. The department has had aerosol fire suppression tools, otherwise called a fire suppression grenade, on certain fire apparatus for about a year. One of these was used on Sunday to rapidly control the heat and spread of the fire. The fire was declared under control within 90 minutes. Both of the houses were boarded up properties. There was no one inside either of them at the time. A cause and damage estimates are not available yet.
Just after nine o’clock Sunday morning, Saskatoon Fire crews were called to the area of 71st Street East and Burron Avenue. The passenger cabin of a semi unit was on fire. They arrived within four minutes to find the semi unit fully ablaze. It was out in less than 10 minutes but the semi could no longer be driven. There was no one inside.
