One of Saskatoon’s former Mayors has announced his candidacy for the fall election.
Don Atchison began his time on Council in 1994 and then was Mayor from 2003 to 2016.
His slogan is ‘proven leadership’.
He listed a few items he would for or against.
Atchison says he wouldn’t vote for a property tax increase in 2021, bike lanes on 3rd Avenue, defunding the police or reallocating of funds for other services from police, a $19-billion environmental program or a Bus Rapid Transit System.
On the other hand, he would vote for a new solution to the lighthouse, an increase in the number of affordable rental and housing units back to an average of 500 per year and allowing citizens to vote on the costly projects that would mean a tax increase.
Atchison is advocating for the removal of rail lines through Saskatoon, making Saskatoon the mining capital of the world, community centres and an all faith centre.
