Nearly 300 tickets were issued over a two-day Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) hosted by Prince Albert Police this month.
Officers from various police agencies across the province and RCMP members participated in the blitz from August 19th-20th. Police checked both private and commercial vehicles to ensure safety compliance with traffic regulations. Over the course of two days, police stopped nearly 700 drivers and issued nearly 300 tickets. Some of the infractions included speeding, with 127 tickets, lack of seat belts with 54, and use of a cell phone with 28 tickets issued. Police say they arrested one driver for impaired driving and handed out 394 warnings to other drivers about various vehicle equipment regulations and policies.
The STEP initiative is an annual event put on by Saskatchewan law enforcement and SGI.
