The federal government has announced partnerships with companies to produce a COVID-19 vaccine.
Agreements have been reached with NovaVacc and Johnson and Johnson to reserve millions of doses of the vaccine they’re developing.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says their most recent tests show promising results. He says the government wants to make sure that if one of these potential vaccines is successful, Canada will have access to the needed doses. The new agreements, along with 2 earlier ones, will provide 88 million doses, with more to come.
Federal Innovation, Science and Industry Minister Navdeep Bains says part of the partnership is with a National Research Council of Canada facility in Montreal. He says the facility will supply a reliable domestic supply of vaccines.
