Saskatchewan Polytechnic will use a two pronged approach for courses and programs this fall to ensure safety during the pandemic.
Associate vice-president of learning and teaching and associate vice-president of student services Mike Gillespie says as a polytechnic, applied learning is a big part of what they do and they can’t do everything remotely. Meaning they’ve had to come up with strict guidelines and processes, in consultation with what the public health advice, for any on campus learning. Gillespie, says they will be doing a lot of instruction remotely but will also be doing applied hands-on learning, in person, with those extra safety precautions.
Gillespie says it will be more on a program by program basis for which courses will offer more in person instruction. He says they had to look at which parts absolutely need to be in person because it would impact upon the integrity or ability to meet the needed outcomes for the course.
Gillespie believes Sask Polytech has done a very thorough job of identifying which parts can be done in person, but will continue to reflect and adapt accordingly when classes begin.
