As COVID-19 numbers are increasing in Canada, federal health officials are expressing concern. But, Canada’s Chief Medical Health Officer is cautious about returning to more restrictive measures.
Dr. Theresa Tam says a lot depends on data where trends are being targeted. She says if they see certain sectors or settings such as night clubs, where they are getting outbreaks, that’s where restrictions would need to be targeted.
And with colder weather on the way, Tam also reminds people to limit indoor gatherings to close family; and observe hygiene protocols.
Federal officials were asked about testing capacity, with some labs at their limit for testing.
hief public health officer Dr. Tam says testing has gone past the 60 thousand per day mentioned this spring.
Tam was asked about increasing testing capacity, and when could we see rapid tests to detect the virus. She said she can’t predict the time lines on the regulatory side.
There are 138,010 cases in Canada with 9,179 deaths.
