A new school in Saskatoon City Centre is set to start planning and design work. The school will replace Princess Alexandra, King George and Pleasant Hill Elementary schools. It’s a partnership between the province, the city, Saskatoon Public Schools and Saskatoon Tribal Council.
STC Chief Mark Arcand says it’s uplifting for neighbourhoods that really needs some positive actions. He hopes there will be lots of programs and services for First Nations children. The school will be near White Buffalo Youth Lodge, so he expects there will be a connection to programs at both, with after school, evening and weekend programs for the community.
The government says the new school is part of the 7.5 billion dollar year two capital plan that was announced to spur economic stimulation in the midst of the pandemic. However, this project – which has up till now been dubbed the City Centre Project – was announced as long ago as 2018.
The school is scheduled to be complete in the fall of 2024.
