A public inquest into the death of a man found unresponsive in his cell at the Regional Psychiatric Centre 3 years ago is scheduled for the week of October 19th at the Saskatoon Inn. James Short had been sentenced for robbery, breaking and entering and failing to comply with a probation order. The Saskatchewan Coroners Service is responsible for the investigation of all sudden, unexpected deaths.
A public inquest into the death of 43 year old Donald Blair is scheduled for the week of November 2nd at the Saskatoon Inn. He was found unresponsive in his cell at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre on November 7th of 2018. Blair was on remand at the time. The Coroners Act states that the Chief Coroner can hold an inquest into the death of a person who dies while an inmate, unless satisfied the death was entirely due to natural causes and was not preventable.
