The Saskatchewan Construction Association has a message for candidates in the upcoming provincial and municipal elections.
President and CEO, Mark Cooper, has outlined the top issues for the industry and what they will be looking for, including the priority for governments to support local.
He points out that when using taxpayers’ money, taxpayers’ should benefit and one way to make sure that happens is when an out-of-province company is awarded a project there should be an ‘after action’ report to find out why and what can be done next time to ensure Saskatchewan companies are ready to do that work.
Cooper add that the provincial economy was struggling before COVID-19, which has had a direct impact on the construction industry because they are dependent on other sectors doing well, like manufacturing, oil and gas and agriculture.
When these sectors are doing well, there are more construction projects.
Three years ago, there were over 60-thousand Saskatchewan workers in construction and now there are around 44-thousand.
Here is the SKCA’s list of priorities: saskatchewan construction association
