The province is contributing about $421,000 over the next three years to the United Way. It’s to expand interpersonal violence supports available through the 211 provincial call line and web portal.
The money will go to United Way’s existing 211 phone line, providing staff with additional training on connecting individuals who have experienced interpersonal violence, including sexual and domestic violence, to services in their community. Additionally, interpersonal violence content on the 211 website will be made more comprehensive and user-friendly.
One of the most frequently-cited barriers to reporting and escaping interpersonal violence is the lack of clear, accurate information on available resources.
In 2018, about ten per cent of all calls to the 211 line, including text, live chat, and email, were related to interpersonal violence.
