The Canadian Cancer Society wants to get the message out for that although prostate cancer is one of the more prevalent cancers, it is preventable if caught early.
September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
Cancer Society spokesperson, Dr. Stuart Edmonds, says 1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
23,000 men are diagnosed each year and about 4-thousand succumb to the disease.
Edmonds suggest men should have a talk with their doctor to see if it’s time for a PSA test which can detect a prostate-specific antigen.
Along with funding research, Edmonds says the Cancer Society can help to improve the quality of life for men and their families through support and information about the disease.
