Provincial and federal funding for 6 projects in Saskatchewan for affordable housing totals $4.3-million.
That includes $522-thousand for renovations to 144 units across all 6 Embassy Gardens apartment buildings in Saskatoon’s Holiday Park.
One of those buildings is leased by EGADZ and it’s specifically for vulnerable youth and their children.
Executive Director Don Miekle explains that the youth don’t have to pay a damage deposit, but instead pay it off through ‘sweat equity’, learning new construction skills.
He says the project shows that disadvantage people want to work and earn a living to provide for their families.
The other projects are in Ile-a-la-Crosse, Meadow Lake and La Loche.
