Statistics Canada says, as COVID-19 restrictions eased off, there was a slight decrease in business closures in June and a large increase in openings. In June, there were 56,296 closures seen in the business sector which was 5.6 per cent less than in May but still 44 per cent higher than the pre-COVID-19 level seen in February. The number of business openings increased by nearly 34 per cent from May. Quebec was the exception, recording a two per cent increase in closures. In Saskatchewan there was about a 31 per cent jump in business openings in June.
