One man is dead and another is facing a Second Degree Murder charge after an incident on the Stanley Mission First Nation on Saturday. Around 4:30 that afternoon, RCMP were asked to do a welfare check on a man at a residence on the First Nation. Officers tried unsuccessfully to contact the man but did speak with another man at the residence. As officers were about to enter, they heard the sound of a firearm being loaded and retreated to a safe place. The Emergency Response team and Crisis Negotiators were called in. Around 5:15 the next morning, the man surrendered and was arrested. Officer seized a firearm and found the body of 45 year old Jamie Leroy Roberts in the residence. He was the subject of the welfare check. 26 year old Kane Lenard Roberts is also charged with Indignity to a Dead Body. His next Provincial Court appearance will be in La Ronge on October 26th.
