Saskatoon Mayoral candidate Cary Tarasoff has proposed an idea for getting the rail lines out of the city. Much discussed in the past, the ideas so far have floated around overpasses or underpasses within the city, or moving the lines out of the city altogether.
Tarasoff wants the lines moved entirely under the city; from one end to the other. As he puts it, “To gently dig down under the city and back up the other side.”
Tarasoff says trains have been in underground mining operations for about 150 years. He also points to subway lines that travel underground in large cities. He envisions the under-city tunnel being created by a Tunnel Boring Machine.
