As of the end of the nomination deadline on Wednesday, there are 38 candidates in Saskatoon’s civic election for Council and for the City’s next Mayor. This is not including school board nominees.
In Ward 3 alone, there are 8 candidates running. That’s the highest number of candidates in a Ward, and Ward 4 has the lowest number, with incumbent Troy Davies as the only candidate. All the other Wards have at least 2 candidates.
There are 6 people campaigning to become Mayor – Don Atchison, Charlie Clark, Rob Norris, Zubair Sheikh, Cary Tarasoff, and Mark Zielke.
4PM Thursday is the deadline for withdrawing from the election. Election date is November 9th.

There are many ways to vote in the election on November 9th. Returning Officer, Scott Bastian, says if you are worried about COVID-19, all the safety protocols will be in place when you vote on election day or at one of the advance polls, but you can also vote by mail if you apply before October 30th or by email.
So far 33-hundred people have applied to vote by mail, which is up from 200 in 2016. Eligible voters, you have four options to apply: online, email, in person, or mail. Click here for more details. Approved mail-in ballot packages will begin to be mailed in mid-October after the close of nominations. Once you ve received your mail-in ballot package, follow the instruction sheet provided in your package.
