New Democrat Leader Ryan Meili is pledging that an NDP government would invest more than $10 million to improve access to mental health care for families and create a strategy to combat Saskatchewan’s opioid and crystal meth crisis.
Meili says, “Everyone has the right to feel safe in their own communities. But under the Sask. Party, the mental health and addictions crisis has spiraled out of control,” He says, “The strain and pressure of the pandemic has made timely access to care more important than ever.” Meili believes Sask. Party leader Scott Moe has plans for deep cuts that will only make the problem worse.
The NDP plan would include:
Investing $7.8 million to create dedicated mental health emergency rooms in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert and Moose Jaw.
Committing an additional $2 million to develop and implement an evidence-based strategy to tackle Saskatchewan’s opioid and crystal meth crisis, focusing on awareness and harm reduction.
And, introduce a legislated suicide prevention strategy.
