Two cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at a retirement residence in Saskatoon, Preston Park 2. The CEO of the Saskatchewan Health Authority, Scott Armstrong, says it’s not a personal care home, it’s a seniors assisted living facility privately owned by All Seniors Care, so it’s not under the umbrella of the SHA.
When asked Thursday afternoon, Armstrong didn’t have any details around contact tracing or where the transmission came from, but the SHA is working with the facility in that regard.
Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Saqib Shahab, says the strict guidelines for long term care facilities have served the province well, with no devastating outbreaks that many other jurisdictions have seen.
Considering this, and with Thanksgiving this weekend, Dr. Shahab reminds everyone to be vigilant with the safety protocols to keep transmission at bay. He urges everyone to have a look at how many people are in their close contact list, and whittle it down if needed, as we head indoors with the cooler weather.
For Thanksgiving, he says the safest way to celebrate is with your immediate household, and visit with everyone else virtually. If you plan to have people over, it’s preferable to limit it only to your extended household that you meet regularly.
