The Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce has announced its wish list ahead of the provincial election in less than two weeks.

The chamber calls them their seven election policy pillars which are centered around the theme of enabling business recovery and resilience in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and from the economic slowdown.

2. Financial Literacy
3. Energy Efficiency and the Low Carbon Economy
4. Labour Markets
5. Trade Diversification and Supply Chain Resilience
6. Government Procurement
7. Indigenous Engagement

Steve McLellan, CEO of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce, said economic recovery isn’t expected overnight, but the province needs to build a resilience for the next time something challenges the economy. “We need to build from there and offset some of the damage that has been caused by COVID-19,” stated McLellan.

McLellan hopes the pillars will both inform chamber members of key issues of business for this election and raise the profile of these issues in the public.

“We’ve done things like focus now on financial literacy not for the current business people but for young people going to school, so when they are older they have a better balance sheet,” he added. “They can save to get them through those difficult days like what we have seen over the last several months.”
