Warman Fire and Rescue say they had a busy morning after getting a call at 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday where a car hit a deer on Highway 305. The deer was thrown through the window of a second oncoming car landing in the passenger seat. Both drivers involved were injured. The driver in the second car was flown by STARS to hospital and Warman Fire and Rescue says that person is doing well.

There was also a double car fire several hours earlier in Warman at 1:30 a.m. There wasn’t any damage to homes from the blaze. Fire Chief Russ Austin says a minivan parked on the street had started on fire and the vehicle it was parked behind on the street also caught fire. The vehicle fire is under investigation but not considered suspicious.
Meanwhile the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation is urging drivers to give wildlife a brake. The SWF says autumn is the breeding season for both moose and deer species which means they are roaming more and the majority of vehicular collisions with wildlife occur in the fall. In 2019, Saskatchewan drivers saw 16,761 collisions with wildlife causing 350 injuries and one death. There were also $80 million in insurance claims. The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation says constant vigilance and reducing vehicle speeds, especially from dusk until dawn, can significantly help reduce collisions.
