WestJet is indefinitely suspending flights to four cities in Atlantic Canada. The affected operation are in Moncton, Fredericton, Sydney, and Charlottetown. It involves the elimination of more than 100 flights and represents almost 80 per cent of seat capacity from the Atlantic region. The suspension begins November 2nd.
President and CEO Ed Sims says it has become unviable to serve these markets. Sims says, “Since the pandemic’s beginning, we have worked to keep essential air service to all of our domestic airports, but we are out of runway and have been forced to suspend service in the region without sector-specific support.”
The Atlantic Canada “bubble” stipulates anyone coming in from elsewhere, even within Canada, must self isolate for 14 days.
There is no return to service date. The company says guests who are impacted will be contacted directly regarding their options for travel to and from the region.
