A re-elected Saskatchewan Party government says it will support community facilities by restarting the Community Rink Affordability Grant and significantly increasing funding to the Saskatchewan Veteran Service Club Support Program. The latter supports veteran services organizations like Royal Canadian Legions.
The Community Rink Affordability Grant would provide $2,500 per ice surface per year. The grant would be restarted in the current fiscal year with communities receiving payments this winter. About 635 ice surfaces in 373 communities would benefit at a cost of $1.7 million per year.
Funding under the Saskatchewan Veteran Service Club Support Program would increase from $100,000 to $1.5 million per year.
There are 164 Legion Halls, four ANAVETS and one Lynx Wing in Saskatchewan.
