Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Lang says it is the time of year when you could encounter snow, as evidenced by the forecast. So she suggests it is a good time to think about having the snow tires put on, get the yard ready, and if you are travelling Friday keep in mind the weather system that is moving in is coming from Alberta and will affect the southern half of Saskatchewan. So those heading that direction will encounter snow and should check the Highway Hotline.
The Highway Hotline is available here.
A special weather statement has been issued and a low pressure system will track across southwestern Saskatchewan today bringing accumulating snow to areas south of a line from roughly Kindersley to Oxbow. Total snowfall accumulations will be in the 5 to 10 cm range in a number of areas. The system will move quickly out of the region but will be followed by a cooler air mass which is on the heels of overnight lows in the last two nights in Saskatoon that were 10 degrees or more, lower than the 30 year average of -1.
A record low was set yesterday in Saskatoon and very close to one again this morning. The one from Thursday broke a 100 year old record.
