Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer says he has no other details to provide about a business and an individual being fined for failing to abide by the Public Health order, and a business being temporarily closed for having inadequate COVID-19 safety protocols, so no names are being released. Dr. Saqib Shahab also said he couldn’t speak to any specifics around a public service announcement about a person who is confirmed to have the virus being at the Longbranch in Saskatoon on October 8th, although suggests many young people feel more invulnerable, and that’s not just when it comes to the pandemic.
The province is seeing more cases of COVID-19 in the young, active age group of 15 to 39 year olds. Dr. Shahab says there have been 54 confirmed cases in this age group since Monday.
He adds that not only are we seeing more cases of COVID-19, the contact tracing is becoming more complex. He points to contact tracing earlier in the pandemic which would link to 3 or 4 people, but now the average is around 8, and some are as high as almost 200 social contacts. Dr. Shahab suggests it’s time to slow things down and be more vigilant about the number of people in our virtual bubbles.
