Ward 2 candidate Rose Kasleder has a Masters Degree in Political Studies from the University of Saskatchewan and ten years of work experience in the not-for-profit, government and higher education sectors.
Her priorities for Ward are economic growth, dealing with the boarded up homes, and bringing back community policing. Kasleder is disappointed with the way the City handled the Farmer’s Market situation, which ended with the organization having to move out of River Landing. She says, “If you have something good, you make it better. You don’t get rid of it.”
She believes one of the solutions for the abandoned homes could be a Municipal Heritage Incentive for homeowners and developers interested in preserving and restoring heritage homes. With property taxes set to increase by 3.7 per cent next year, Kasleder suggests the bottom line is that Saskatoon needs to be more affordable, not less so.
