We don’t have another election to add to our list. MPs voted 180 to 146 to defeat the opposition motion from the Conservative party to create a special committee to look at the Liberal government’s ethics concerning the WE charity and at the pandemic spending.
The Prime Minister declared the vote a confidence measure, which meant that if it passed, there would have to be an election, so the Liberal minority government remains and there will be no snap election from this particular motion.
Before the vote, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, would not say how is party’s MPs would vote or whether they might abstain, but said, they would vote for Canadians and against an election. He suggested people aren’t looking for an election right now, and instead they need support during the pandemic and confidence for the future.
Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole says he will continue to work with the other parties to hold the government to account.
