Although COVID-19 has changed how we all do things, the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra has found a unique way to celebrate the performances of its 90th season.
Music Director Eric Paetkau says people from around the world sent in pictures and videos of their virtual bubbles watching the first 2 shows and in some cases they had COVID-friendly events around the orchestra’s musical theme.
That got organizers thinking about how to celebrate Oktoberfest while taking in the traditional music during the SSO’s performance on Saturday night.
Paetkau says this week they have been posting interactive events on social media that include how to make pretzels, favourite beers of the musicians and their memories of past Oktoberfests.
He hopes those who take in the performance will get into the spirit with their own Oktoberfest food and drink.
When you purchase a digital ticket for $15, you will get a link to the performance prior to the show.
Paetkau says there are actually people in the audience during the shows, but they can only have about 120 guests because of physical distancing, so the tickets go to the subscribers and the rest are virtual.
Normally, they can seat 18-hundred. For more information, click here.
