The Saskatchewan Hotel and Hospitality Association is one of many hoping that the surge in COVID-19 cases we are seeing doesn’t mean some areas of the economy are going to be shut down again.
Jim Bence says that would be a disaster for bars and restaurants who are already struggling to survive because of what the pandemic has done.
Bence says comments from provincial Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab about working with the industry to follow guidelines is refreshing. He says we don’t need a knee-jerk reaction but we also need both operators and customer s to be accountable for their actions.
Many active cases in Saskatoon are linked to events at some bars and nightclubs. Bence says while that does disappoint him, the vast majority of Saskatchewan bar and restaurant owners are following the guidelines to keep customers and themselves safe. (CKRM)
