During the municipal election campaign we are featuring a different candidate each day leading up to the election day on November 9th.
Today we talked to Christopher Sicotte, who is running Ward 3. Sicotte says one of his key priorities for Saskatoon is affordability as he is hearing from people who are having troubles making ends meet. He wants to try and find ways to create more cash in pocket for individuals and not leave anymore behind, by reviewing individual taxes and municipal fees.
Other priorities include maximizing economic development, an emphasis community engagement and an integrated community based approach to city safety that works hand in hand with Saskatoon Police. Sicotte also believes in a 2 pronged approach to reconciliation. Including the societal aspects which he thinks Saskatoon has done well so far, and economic reconciliation to assist Indigenous businesses, so they can grow and thrive in the city.
Sicotte says 26 years in the financial services industry gives him a better insight on how decisions can effect taxpayers. As a commercial lender he can view things through a business lens, especially when it comes to financing and knowing things as minuscule as interest rates can actually have an impact on a projects overall success.
