Mayoral candidate Don Atchison says community safety in Saskatoon is a campaign issue that is getting little attention, and if elected, he will make it a priority.
Part of the answer, Atchison says, is a properly funded police service, which he doesn’t believe is happening right now.
He understands that the underlying causes of crime need to be addressed, so if elected, he would work with various agencies and levels of government to improve the lives of all of Saskatoon’s citizens.
Atchison points to when he was mayor between 2005 and 2015 when he says the incidence of crime and victimization decreased by 46 per cent, as opposed to an 18 per cent increase in crime in 2019 and the first six months of 2020.
