The Saskatoon Fire Department battled a maintenance garage fire on the 19 hundred block of Saskatchewan Avenue Sunday afternoon. The call came in around one o’clock. Three engines, a ladder, and a rescue vehicle were dispatched. They arrived to find smoke visible from the roof line of all four sides of the building. Crews who went inside encountered heavy smoke and then extreme heat as they progressed deeper inside. When fire was seen breaking through the roof, the inside crews were called out. City police say there were no traffic restrictions in the area but, as of about two o’clock, heavy black smoke was still moving north-east from the location.
